2010 - The Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center opens in April. The new Wellness Center is an incredible triumph for all seniors in San Diego. For the first time, Senior Community Centers is no longer limited by its space. Innovative and visionary programs like Civic Engagement, Community Education and the Cyber Café are creating a buzz in the community and beyond. |

2009 - Tenant improvements begin on the new wellness center in partnership with HomeAid San Diego. |

2008 - The Gary and Mary West Foundation’s gift of $3 million (our largest gift ever!) to name the new Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness Center aligns with our vision to transform the aging process for seniors living in poverty. |

2007 - City Heights Square opens with 150 units of affordable, supportive housing. |

2003 - Market Square Manor, our first affordable, supportive housing project is dedicated. Name is later changed to Potiker Family Senior Residence to recognize the generous support from Hughes and Sheila Potiker. |

2002 - Senior Community Centers, along with the County and City of San Diego form the Transitional Housing Program, a partnership providing funding for beds and support services for homeless seniors at a nearby single room occupancy (SRO) hotel. |

1998 - Health Promotion, Harm Reduction Program is created, teaming a nurse with a social worker to ensure the health and wellbeing of homebound seniors. Broadway Center begins serving meals on the weekends. |

1983 - Name is changed to Senior Community Centers of San Diego. |

1978 - Home Delivered Meals Program begins. A total of 68,705 meals are served this year with nearly 2,000 delivered to homebound seniors. |

1975 - Center moves to First Presbyterian Church at 820 Date Street downtown. Outreach, transportation, case management, and referral services are added and meals fee is eliminated. |

1973 - Center begins serving lunches five days a week for a fee of 50 cents per meal. |

1970 - Cedar Community Center is established in May as a nutrition site under the Catholic Charities umbrella. Center is dedicated later in the year and offers bridge, handicrafts, movies, games, and hot lunches on Thursdays. |
