Meals Funding

In a critical step toward the finalization of appropriations for the Federal government for Fiscal Year 2007, the full House of Representatives on January 31, 2007 passed H. J. Res. 20 which contains an additional $13.6 million for congregate nutrition programs and $6.4 million for home-delivered meal programs. This is an increase of 3.5 percent over FY ’06 enacted levels and is a major victory for senior meal programs.

CEO Paul Downey and others on the board of NANASP (National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs) have been tireless advocates for this increase and consider it a victory in the battle to raise the awareness of legislators to the plight of low-income seniors nationwide.

“This funding increase is a testament to the hard work of a dedicated group of advocates who worked diligently to make it a reality,” said Downey . “I was delighted to have been able to play a small part in this effort.”
