Social Activities

Social activities give the seniors a chance to develop friendships with each other as well as socialize with friends from volunteer groups. Most of the seniors at our Broadway Center live alone, so the contacts they make there are often the only opportunity they have to mingle with others.

Activities vary depending on the volunteer group supplying them, but the most popular—bingo, music appreciation class, a monthly birthday party, and continuing education opportunities, never change.

One regular group is the Serving our Seniors (SOS) Committee, a group of Senior Community Centers board members and friends who plans fun events like the Senior Idol talent contest, The Witches Ball Halloween Bash, a “black-tie optional” New Year’s Eve Party, field trips to local parks, museums, and sports activities, Irish Karaoke party, and Pizza Bingo. The seniors love to dance and have something fun to do and the volunteers enjoy seeing them have a great time.

Ongoing activities at the Potiker Family Senior Residence include Potiker University (the senior version of adult education), arts and crafts, Gentle Yoga, and The Clubhouse, an activities hub that encourages social interaction through outings to nearby attractions.

If your volunteer group is interested in scheduling a social activity, please contact Kitty Roberts by email or call her at 619.235.6572 ext. 329.
