Anthony's Story: His Gift to Others
-
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started in early 2020, we have all felt an immense sense of fear.
The fear of the unknown, the fear of catching the virus, and the fear of not knowing if things will ever be "normal" again.
This is especially true for Anthony, a Serving Seniors client who has been isolated since the start of the pandemic due to his chronic illnesses.
But with a love for art and helping others, Anthony has put his extra time to good use.
“I collect old sheets, pillowcases, fabrics, and repurpose them for every holiday,” Anthony shared. ""I love doing art. I can't go out and do things, but I can do this!"
Anthony's creative hobby started with his competitive spirit in earning the first-place prize in Serving Senior's Door Decorating Contest. But soon after winning the title, it was no longer was about the contests - he just simply wanted to spread as much joy as he possible could to his fellow senior residents who needed it the most.
Experiencing the long-term effects of social isolation himself, Anthony knows how hard the COVID-19 pandemic has been for everyone. He has seen firsthand the negative effects it has had at the seniors living at Potiker Senior Residence, who have been combatting the crippling effects of social isolation.
Anthony knows his artwork has sparked joy for so many, himself included, and plans to continue decorating for every major holiday this year.
"This is my gift to others, and I love it!" Anthony said.
