For San Diego seniors, food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges they face. Living on a fixed income, it’s a daily struggle to access healthy, affordable food.

Open 365 days of the year, Serving Seniors’ Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center offers fresh, nutritious meals for breakfast and lunch at no cost to seniors. These meals, designed in collaboration with a registered dietician, provide one-third of nutrition requirements for older adults and accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs including low-sodium and low-fat diets.

Thousands of older adults, like Ray, rely on these meals to make it through the week. “It’s a meal that’s free for those that can’t afford a meal,” shares Ray. Our nutrition program allows a safety net for struggling seniors, so they don’t have to worry about where they’ll get their next meal.

Your support allows us to keep seniors fed. Because of YOU, we were able to prevent 10,765 seniors across San Diego County from going hungry over the last year. With so much uncertainty right now, one thing is clear – our nutrition program is essential for the well-being of seniors.

But the impact goes beyond nutrition – it creates connection and community.

“Without the Wellness Center, I’d feel lost.”

At Serving Seniors, older adults meet new people and share experiences while enjoying a meal together. Combating social isolation is vital for seniors to live happy, healthy lives. “I come here and have my peers my age. I like to find ways to stay busy and I’m a very sociable person.”

The meals have helped Ray stay healthy both physically and mentally. Every senior deserves not just food, but the dignity and security to know they have access to resources and community.

This month, in honor of National Nutrition Month, please consider joining our Full Plate Club to give monthly to help us combat food insecurity for seniors to stay healthy and thrive. It only costs $20 a month to feed a senior lunch for one full week.

We can’t do this without your support. Give today.
