Serving Seniors Staff Members Join Point In Time Count (PITC) Effort on Thursday, February 24, 4 am – 8 am
Serving Seniors staff members will participate as volunteers in the San Diego County 2022 “Point In Time Count” (PITC) scheduled rain or shine on Thursday, February 24. The team joins volunteers across the region between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. to conduct this vital outreach project.
Serving Seniors volunteers will walk the streets in the area immediately surrounding the Serving Seniors Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center at 1525 4th Avenue, San Diego. They will attempt to survey each unhoused person they see. Counters self-select a census tract area to survey and are deployed in teams led by a professional outreach worker from a specific count site during the morning of the count.
Data collected during the PITC is critical to effective planning and program management toward the goal of ending homelessness in San Diego County, and for the nation as a whole. Counting those who are unsheltered ensures people with the greatest needs can be addressed in community resource deployment.
The We All Count Point-in-Time Count (PITC) is a federally mandated requirement designated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to be conducted every two years. It is overseen in San Diego County by the Regional Task Force on Homelessness.
San Diego is one of several major cities which has historically chosen to conduct a homeless count each year but was not able to do so in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. All local COVID safety guidelines will be in place for the 2022 count.
