Who We Are

Established in 1970, Serving  Seniors helps San Diego County’s low-income seniors overcome poverty  through whole-person, wraparound support including meals, housing,  health and social services, and enrichment activities. We work at  numerous sites across the county and in the homes of hundreds of  homebound seniors. Our flagship Gary & Mary West Senior Wellness  Center in downtown San Diego is unlike any other senior center in the  nation. Bringing together a range of supportive services under one roof,  the Senior Wellness Center operates 365 days a year and offers two  floors of integrated care, including health and social services, housing  navigation, enrichment activities, lifelong learning, a Cyber Café and  linkage to over 25 onsite direct service partners, including a senior  dental center. Last fiscal year, we provided over 1,400,000 meals and  coordinated services to 6,800 older adults.

Requirements

 Job Summary:

The Development Officer plays an important role as administrative support for the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Development and External Affairs Department. 

Primary duties include administering and managing the donor software program and processing of all contributions to Serving Seniors in accordance with agency policies and procedures. In addition, the Development Coordinator will also provide clerical and administrative support for the CEO, C-Level Senior Staff (as needed), the board of directors, and for the various programs and operations of the Development department.

The Development Coordinator plays a critical role in the achievement and successful implementation of fundraising and marketing/PR objectives. 

 

Responsibilities:

Administrative support for the President/CEO, Chief Philanthropy Officer, and the Development Department

• Provide administrative and clerical support including but not limited to scheduling, drafting written correspondence, taking minutes, fielding phone calls and emails, taking messages, preparing materials and room arrangements for meetings. 

• Interface and communicate with other departments, community partners, board members, donors, and volunteers.

• Maintain and organize Development Department files.

• Conduct donor prospect research as directed.

· Coordinate with the Finance Department to reconcile contributions and finance reports.

Donor Cultivation and Database Administration 

• Maintain and manage donor database, other subscription fundraising software programs, including entering and tracking of donor data and maintaining key constituent information.

• Process thank you letters to all donors in a timely manner.

• Develop donor reports for the Chief Philanthropy Officer, President/CEO, and the Board of Directors. 

• Develop reports, spreadsheets, tables, and grids to summarize and present information as needed.

• Stay adept and up-to-date with the donor database and its capabilities.

• Download donor data for reporting and mailing purposes.

· Participate in stewardship activities such as thank-a-thons, friend-raising events, recognition events, etc.

• Attend community events as needed, and interface with current and prospective donors.

Marketing and Public Relations Support 

• Assist with marketing, communications and public relations efforts as needed - including but not limited to preparing information packets and media packets.

Event Support 

• Assist the Development Department with special event planning by providing clerical support for all fundraising and friend raising events, as needed.

• Assist with the coordination of and communication with event sponsors and vendors, as needed.

• Maintain registration lists, create name tags, and process guest payments.

Grant Writing Support

• Assist with grant proposal, attachment preparation, making copies for proposal submission and filing, and in-person delivery to funders or to the post office as needed.

• Research upcoming funding opportunities, as needed.

General Agency Support

• Act as in-kind donations coordinator for the agency.

• Carry out other duties as necessary to ensure organizational success.

Education/Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Minimum one to three years experience performing general administrative duties. 

· One to three years’ experience with public relations and/or working in a fundraising environment. (preferred)

· Experience with fundraising software. (preferred)

· Experience working within a nonprofit organization. (preferred)

· Experience working within a fundraising/development department.(preferred)

· Experience working with office equipment.

 

Skills:

· Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

· Excellent time management and organizational skills.

· Writing, proofing and editing skills.

· Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines.

· Initiative to recognize and anticipate problems, then solve them.

· Advanced knowledge, experience, and demonstrated proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, computer software, and web interface.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to normal risks of working in an office environment (e.g., risks due to heavy computer use).  

 

Pay: $28.85
