For over a decade, Mohamed Azzazi was an active client at our Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center and a dedicated volunteer. In April 2025, we lost Mohamed, a cherished member of our community. His joy and commitment to service for his peers has made a lasting impact.
As an advocate for seniors, Mohamed was among the founding members of the Civic Engagement Group, which focuses on empowering seniors to address challenges that impact the senior community. Representing Serving Seniors, Mohamed participated in meetings and events at local, state and national levels to advocate for legislation that affects seniors.
Mohamed thrived on being active and social. He helped out at the monthly PAWS pet supply distribution and attended the congregate dining lunch service. He also actively participated in a variety of activities, including the Serving Seniors Singing Group and weekly walking group at the Wellness Center. In both groups, he served as the official photographer, capturing memorable moments to share.
Mohamed was known for his bright smile and happy demeanor, and always lending a helping hand to his fellow seniors. He often and proudly wore his signature attire - a Serving Seniors hat and t-shirt. Mohamed truly embodied the mission of Serving Seniors and was a caring friend to many.

Ted Wills, founding member of the Civic Engagement Group and close friend had this to share about his time with Mohamed:
“I have known Mohamed since 2015 when I first became a client/volunteer at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center. One of my most vivid memories of Mohamed recalls his work with Civic Engagement. The Committee would periodically distribute copies of our
occasional newsletter and/or notices of upcoming Wellness Center events to senior facilities also supportive community organizations throughout the Greater San Diego area. Mohamed compiled a list of locations to be supplied, coordinated the assignment of specific locations for distribution to teams of Committee members, and used his own vehicle to supply locations that were difficult to access by public transit.
On a more personal note, it has been a privilege and a pleasure to have had Mohamed as a friend and an associate over the course of a decade. His presence has enriched my life. Rest in peace."
Mohamed leaves behind a legacy of kindness, commitment, and love - one that will continue to inspire us.
