This National Volunteer Month we recognize the volunteers who sustain Serving Seniors programs across San Diego. Your time powers no cost nutritious meals, permanent and transitional housing support, health and social services, and enrichment activities for older adults living on low incomes.
Why this work matters
Volunteering creates consistent human connection that directly improves quality of life for older adults. Regular visits and shared activities reduce social isolation and loneliness. Volunteers who serve meals, host activities, or deliver groceries provide social contact that helps seniors and feel seen.
Volunteers enable better nutrition and food security. Serving Seniors provides no cost nutritious meals at congregate dining sites and through home delivered routes. Volunteers who prepare, serve, or deliver meals help ensure that older adults receive balanced meals on a regular schedule.
Volunteering strengthens community resilience and dignity. Hosting activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, cooking demonstrations, and birthday celebrations creates moments of joy. These activities build social networks that help seniors remain engaged. Volunteers also bring intergenerational connection that preserves life stories and skills.

Thank you to every volunteer who serves meals, leads activities, delivers groceries, or simply spends time listening. Your hours translate into dignity, nourishment, and companionship for San Diego seniors.
