How long have you been working with Serving Seniors?

I have been with Serving Seniors for over 8 years now.

Tell me about your journey as a case manager?

I started with Serving Seniors as an intern while completing my undergraduate degree in social work. During my internship, I supported both the Wellness Center and Supportive Housing, particularly at SD Square. After completing my internship, I was offered a position, which I happily accepted.

I began my career as a Supportive Housing Case Manager at SD Square, where I also helped coordinate activities for the residents. Over time, my role expanded, and I began providing case management at both SD Square and PFSR. Almost two years ago, I was promoted to Lead Case Manager, which has allowed me to support my team while continuing to serve our seniors directly.

Can you share a moment or experience that affirmed your passion for this work?

For me, I always knew early on in my life and career that I wanted to do this work. I’ve always felt driven to make a positive impact on someone’s life, even if it’s just one person. During my undergraduate studies, as I was learning about the field of social work, I wasn’t yet sure which population I wanted to work with. Landing my internship at Serving Seniors changed that. It helped me discover not only my passion for this field, but also a deep connection to working with older adults. That experience really affirmed that this is the work I’m meant to be doing.

What keeps you motivated on challenging days?

The support I receive from my colleagues and supervisors’ makes a huge difference. Knowing that I can ask for help when I’m feeling overwhelmed keeps me grounded. And honestly, the appreciation from clients is incredibly motivating. When they express that my presence or support matters to them, it reminds me why this work is so important.

Why did you decide to pursue your masters in social work?

Completing my MSW has always been a personal and professional goal. I hesitated for a long time because I wasn’t sure how I could balance a full-time job with the internship requirements. Fortunately, my colleague Pamela told me about an online program that accepts employment-based internships. With the support of Serving Seniors, I’ve been able to complete my internship hours while continuing to work. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to be so close to the finish line.

What have your clients taught you?

My clients have taught me patience and humility. They carry so much lived experience, and listening to their stories has shown me the importance of meeting people where they are. They remind me that everyone has a history, a perspective, and a resilience that deserves respect.

What are your hopes for the seniors you support?

I hope they always feel seen, valued, and supported. I want them to experience stability and dignity in their later years. Most importantly, I want them to know they are not alone and that we are here to walk alongside them.
